Website Planning

This section acts as a resource to help our customers to plan their website before we build them. It is by no means compulsory requirement however it will help to clarify what you expect us to do and therefore ensure that your website does exactly what you want it to. We can offer you help and assistance every step of the way, please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss your requirements.

Step 1
The first step to website planning is to establish the objectives of your website, what do you want your website to do? Example objectives might be:

  • To have a place where you can direct your clients to see your company info, portfolio, products etc.
  • To be able to sell your products and take payments online.
  • To improve your sales by entering an online market.
  • To improve your customer service.
  • To make order processing more efficient.
  • To gain online awareness of your company.
  • Etc, etc, etc...

Step 2
The second phase is to identify your target market, who do you want your site to be targeted towards? Methods of market segmentation can be seen below you can mix them up or just use one:

  • Demographically - Age, gender, ethnicity, education, income etc.
  • Geographically - Region, nation etc.
  • Psychographically - Personal values, lifestyles, attitudes etc.
  • Behavioral - Buying patterns, usage rate, benefits sought etc.

Step 3
Think of a domain name (website address), this could be your company / trading name or it could be something completely different. You can check the availability of domain names by clicking here. There is an increased chance of achieving higher search engine rankings if your domain name contains a keyword that people will search for. For example a building company called J. Brown may opt for this domain: www.jbrown-builders.co.uk. It is also a good idea to keep the domain name short so your customers find it easier to type and there is less chance of them misspelling it.

Step 4
Size matters! Approximate how many pages would you like your website to have? Search engines love website content, in theory the bigger your site the higher your organic search engine rankings will be.

Step 5
Write down a list of headings for your site, for example:

  • About Us
  • Products / Services Overview
  • Individual or product catagory pages (if applicable)
  • News
  • Etc. etc.

Step 6
Submit your brief (MS Word Document) by clicking here or email it to us by clicking here.

Step 7
Start writing content for your site under the headings that you identified in Step 5 . The content does'nt have to be exact and you can always change it at a later date. As with any of the previous steps we can offer help if you require it.
